JEE MAIN 2017 CANDIDATES : The significance of Aadhar Card

The JEE or Joint Entrance Examination is the entrance exam used  for admission to undergraduate engineering programs in the IITs, NITs and certain other centrally funded universities. The exam is held every year and aspiring engineers take this exam in the hopes of getting into any one of the premier engineering institutes of the country.

This coming year the JEE will be held on April 2nd, 2017. With the registration and applications opening on December 1st, 2016, the Ministry of Human Resource Development has brought about a change in the rules of the JEE application this year. The following article will talk about this change.

For aspiring candidates of the JEE 2017, the Ministry of Human Resource Development has decreed that all candidates who are Indian citizens must have the Aadhar card issued by the UIDAI with correct details like name and address. According to the notification by the MHRD, which was released on November 10, 2016, all candidates must have valid Aadhar cards at the time of filling in the application. The reason for this is that this information will be asked in the application form. Candidates will have to enter their names, birth date, gender and Aadhar number. This will be validated from the UIDAI database. The candidate must make sure that the details on the Aadhar card match with their school records. If the details are found not to be matching, the candidate would not be able to fill in the form and appear for the exam. Hence candidates should ensure that their Aadhar details match their school records and if they do not, should take up steps to rectify it by contacting the UIDAI or the school.

Once candidates have ensured that they have their Aadhar details in order, they can carry on with filling in the rest of the application form. Submission of applications ends on January 2, 2017, and the last date for payment of exam fees is January 3, 2017. Candidates must ensure they meet the deadlines.

This move by the MHRD came as a surprise to many as this information was not asked in the previous years. The MHRD has made this compulsory to validate and cross verify the identity of the candidates appearing for the exam. Also, this move eliminates the need for candidates to bring along many different identity papers for identification.  Candidates who already have their Aadhar cards can carry on with the filling in their details. As for those candidates who do not have their Aadhar card or who have not applied for them, the CBSE/MHRD has organised Aadhar camps in the cities where the JEE 2017 exam will be held. The candidates can apply for their Aadhar cards here and while they are waiting for their Aadhar cards to be mailed to them, they can still complete the application form for the JEE. When the candidate applies for Aadhar, they will be given a printed slip with their 28 digits unique Aadhar enrollment ID. Candidates can use this number to apply for the JEE 2017 exam. For a list of different cities where the Aadhar camps will be held, students can go to the official website to check. The JEE Main 2017 application forms have to be filled online.

This rule is applicable to all states of India except Jammu & Kashmir, Assam and Meghalaya. Candidates from these states need not use their Aadhar number and instead need to enter Passport number or Ration card number or Bank Account number or any other valid government identity number which was provided by their state. The Aadhar rule is applicable for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) as well.

Candidates must keep in mind that their Aadhar details must be correct and has to match their school records. Any corrections in the Aadhar or School records has to be done swiftly by contacting UIDAI for Aadhar and the respective schools/boards for school records.
The application form will be made available from the 1st of December 2016 and it will close on January 2nd, 2017. Candidates have to fill in the form and submit with all correct details by this time frame. The last date for payment of application fees is 3rd January 2017. In a case of any corrections in the application form, the correction window is open for two weeks in the second half of the month of January 2017. This will be last chance for candidates to make any corrections in their applications, so they must do this carefully.
